Film description

"Morocco" (German title: Herzen in Flammen) was released in 1930 and directed by Josef von Sternberg. The film tells the love story between the nightclub singer Amy Jolly (Marlene Dietrich) and the Foreign Legionnaire Tom Brown (Gary Cooper), set against the backdrop of colonial North Africa. The film became famous for Marlene Dietrich's iconic appearance in a tuxedo, in which she performs on stage, transcending the gender roles of the time with androgynous elegance. This performance defined Dietrich's image as an international screen icon and cemented her collaboration with von Sternberg, which produced several classics in the 1930s. "Morocco" is considered a milestone of early sound cinema and one of the films with which Marlene Dietrich established her global fame.
