Metropolis – Italian poster (1927, restored version)Availability: 10 in stock
Metropolis is a monumental German silent film by Fritz Lang from 1927, based on the novel of the same name by Thea von Harbou (1925). The film depicts a futuristic vision of a large city in which a strictly segregated society of ruling elites and exploited workers exists. A dramatic conflict develops between the two camps, culminating in the search for a “mediator between head and hand.”
With its spectacular expressionist architecture, visionary effects, and music by Gottfried Huppertz, Metropolis is considered a masterpiece of early cinema. “2284”>Gottfried Huppertz, Metropolis is considered a milestone in film history. The restored version, produced in collaboration with the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung, brought the original work back to the screen almost in its entirety many decades later.
