Metropolis is a monumental German silent film by Fritz Lang from 1927, based on the novel by Thea von Harbou (1925). The visionary tale of a futuristic metropolis ruled by an elite class, where the working class is exploited in underground factories, is one of the greatest milestones in film history. The French poster version by Boris Bilinski emphasizes the artistic and expressionistic dimension of the film. With its spectacular architectural visions, innovative special effects by Eugen Schüfftan, and music by Gottfried Huppertz, Metropolis had a lasting impact on the visual language of science fiction films and influenced generations of filmmakers worldwide.
