Maybe... Maybe NotSönke Wortmann’s *Der bewegte Mann* (1994) is based on the comic strip of the same name by Ralf König and went on to become one of the most successful German films of the post-war era. The film tells the story of Axel Feldheim (played by Til Schweiger), who is cheated on by his girlfriend Doro and thrown out of the house. While looking for a place to stay, he ends up in a male-only flat-share and becomes entangled in a turbulent web of misunderstandings, repressed desires and questions of identity.
With a sharp script and an enthusiastic cast, the film humorously challenges gender stereotypes and prejudices. The production not only marked Til Schweiger’s definitive breakthrough as a cinema star, but also defined an era of German romantic comedy that combined light-heartedness with social relevance.
